- In February 2024, he ruled that the conditional immunity provisions in the UK Government's Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act breach the European Convention on Human Rights.[1]
- In October 2021, he ruled that Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis had failed in his statutory duty to "expeditiously" ensure women in Northern Ireland had access to commissioned abortion services.[2]
- In February 2022, he dismissed a Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) challenge, holding that the Secretary of State had the legal authority to direct the establishment of abortion services in Northern Ireland.[3]
- His 200-page Legacy Act judgment was critiqued in a Slugger O'Toole opinion piece for relying on "reconciliation" reasoning, which the author argued veered close to judicial interference in the political process.[4]
